WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 31, 2018 – Berkadia today announced the addition of Managing Director Monica Newman to its HUD Affordable Housing team, the fifth new member to join the group this year. Newman will be based out of the firm’s Denver office, reporting to Senior Vice President and Head of Affordable Housing Steve Ervin.
“We’ve been strategically adding exceptional talent to our team and we are thrilled to bring Monica on board as part of that effort,” said Ervin. “The critical need for housing in communities across the entire country is only growing and Monica’s expertise, particularly in the Mountain West market, will be invaluable to enabling us to ensure this vital resource is broadly available.”
Newman joins Berkadia from CBRE, where she served as an Executive Vice President on the Capital Markets team and was a two-time recipient of the Colbert Coldwell Circle award, which recognizes the firm’s top 100 performers. She specialized in FHA-insured construction and permanent financing for multifamily, senior living and healthcare housing. Over the course of her 30-year career she has managed over $5 billion in FHA-insured debt products.
“There is tremendous opportunity in the affordable market, particularly to find innovative ways to make new construction affordable in today’s under-resourced market,” said Newman. “Berkadia has been at the forefront of creating new solutions and I’m excited to bring my expertise to the team to drive even greater innovation to provide housing to communities that need it.”
Prior to CBRE, Newman was Managing Director for AmeriSphere Mortgage Finance, now a part of NorthMarq Capital. She managed the firm’s production platform, underwriting, trading desk and asset management. Newman earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Idaho.
