NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – May 17, 2019 – Berkadia today announced the addition of Managing Director John Richards to its Mortgage Banking team. Richards will be based out of the firm’s Newport News, Virginia office, and will report to Senior Managing Director John Reed.
“We’re seeing sustained activity in the multifamily markets across Virginia,” said Reed. “John’s wide-variety of commercial real estate experience gives us a further edge in deepening our relationships in the region and offering all of our best-in-class services to the market.”
Richards joins Berkadia from Colliers International, formerly CB Richard Ellis of Virginia, where he most recently served as First Vice President and Director of the Virginia Debt & Equity team. Richards previously led a group responsible for originating commercial mortgage loans and equity investments in the multifamily, office, retail and industrial spaces. He has arranged over $2 billion in loans and investments throughout his career.
“During my tenure at Colliers International/CBRE, I had the opportunity to further establish extensive and long-lasting relationships in the Virginia market and Mid-Atlantic region,” said Richards. “I’m very excited to join Berkadia and add to an already robust mortgage banking team. Virginia has a very dynamic commercial real estate market, with many areas of opportunity, and I’m eager to further expand the full complement of Berkadia services in the area.”
Prior to joining Colliers International, Richards served as a Vice President at GMAC Commercial Mortgage, a Berkadia predecessor, where he was responsible for the origination of commercial real estate loans and equity investments for a portfolio of life companies, GSEs and conduits. He earned his BS in Economics/Business Management from Randolph-Macon College.
