At Berkadia, our success is built upon the talent and hard work of a broad, diversely skilled team. From graphic designers to loan closing specialists to product designers, each of our people brings a unique background, perspective and expertise. Their work allows Berkadia to remain a leader in the commercial real estate industry.

Today, we’re shining the spotlight on Shreya Sangam, Release Train Engineer, Innovation Technology who sits in our Hyderabad, India office, to share what her career has in store, the challenges she faces in CRE and how Berkadia Hyderabad has been investing in women in CRE.

How would you describe your role at Berkadia?

As a Release Train Engineer, I empower product teams to deliver value to our customers with high quality solutions to improve user experience. I connect with stakeholders, escalate roadblocks, help mitigate risk and drive relentless improvement across agile teams. My role contributes to bringing process and behavioral changes that encourage working with an outward mindset across my teams. With knowledge and experience on how to scale lean and agile practices, I facilitate discussions that help teams to stay aligned. I see myself as a servant leader who focuses on providing the support needed by teams to become self–organizing and self-managing.

What part of your role are you most passionate about?

I am most passionate about building trust, openness and confidence within teams. Supporting teams with problem identification and creating an environment of exceptional collaboration has always been exciting. Incremental value delivery to our customers has been a key aspect in building quality practices across teams.

Did you choose CRE or did CRE choose you? What drew you to Berkadia?

I had not heard of Berkadia as an organization. When I had an interview scheduled, I researched Berkadia and was amazed when I went through the values that Berkadia upholds. Berkadia’s values stand out and they make you feel as though you are a part of one big family. It’s been four years now at Berkadia and there has been no looking back. Now I can positively say that I choose Berkadia and the CRE industry it supports.

What has surprised you recently?

I am pleasantly surprised how Berkadia Hyderabad is encouraging women leaders to grow in their careers. The Shine-on projects for women leaders and the sessions planned on continuous learning, delegation skills and negotiation skills have only aided us to advance confidently towards our career goals. This action that Berkadia is taking to create impactful and effective women leaders is very encouraging.

What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself coming into the CRE industry? What is the best advice you have received?

I would advise my younger self to invest time in building relationships with team members, peers, business stakeholders, senior leaders and understanding different perspectives of how the industry works. These conversations amplify your knowledge and you will be ready to find solutions to problems.

The best advice I have received is don’t lose the spark of being creative at work. That is one motivating factor that will help you keep going.

How has your time at Berkadia helped to accelerate your personal or professional development?

Berkadia has helped me to be a better version of myself. I am constantly surrounded by leaders who always encouraged and motivated me to do better. I have learned a lot about CRE industry and have also built knowledge and experience on delivery management, mentorship and coaching teams.

Berkadia values and the Berkadia culture have guided me in the right direction and have helped me align to the culture and vision of the organization. Berkadia has taught me to cultivate the habit of delivering beyond what’s expected, embracing change, thinking differently and being resilient at all times.
